A WHISPER IN THE DARK

Those lush words calling to you
Lying while talking so sweetly
Never realizing the motive underneath
For those sweet lips are all you can see
Not wanting to see beyond the gaze

Weaving together a web of untruths
You cannot see what you don't want to envision
Your view of the truth so skewed from reality
Being done in by your own desire
Never seeing how close to the fire your heart is

So burdened by others wishes
Not finding the time for your own
Surrendering all that you are to the whims of another
Still searching for what you cannot find
Without open eyes the search is endless

Then a whisper in the dark
Calls to you reminding you of who you are
Do you turn away and run again
Into the arms of the one who holds you down
Or do you find the strength to listen ever closer

Silencing the whisper will only prolong the pain
Closing your eyes again and again
Feeling the emptiness inside so familiar
Running so fast away from the only one
Someone who told you the truth you didn't want to hear

No words can describe the pain
No understanding to the depth of sorrow
The whisperer will not stay for long
For they know the outcome of the path taken all too often
When you are ready to see & hear where will they be

Whispers in the dark often fade
Truth so easily seen in the moment
Gives way to the devious one who has their hold on you
Until eyes open wide, hearts and mind see what is real
Then one day the lies won't appeal to you
For once you will know the whisperer was true
