FLYING AWAY

She's so young yet
Not able to see past the moment
Finding herself again in despair
Always trying to compare
Her Self, Her Life to everyone else

Trying to find home within
Not yet able to find understanding
She hasn't lived long enough to see
That so many things will be just be
Her place will be determined by her own will

Somehow others matter so much now
Another's opinion swaying more than her own
How confused pushed and pulled
In every which way
This is how it feels everyday

Her world surrounded by such complexity
Seems those so much older forget what it is like
To be oh so young yet not a child anymore
How abhorred would they be to know the depths
Inside that she sees, that which she seeks

Belonging is all anyone ever wants
So it is with many adults
Those who are supposed to have grown up
Yet find themselves as stuck as this young one
Giving into societal pressure

Standing on your own
Finding strength from the depths felt inside
Her precious soul not for sale
When will the pressure fade and just go away
Only as she learns to let go of what is expected

Learning to be herself
Immersed in what is only her true reality
To just be
Freedom depending on her own mind
Flying away from the constraints
Ultimately only put there by herself
By our own selves
